BQ: Billy Joel or Elton John?
BQ2: What country is your favorite band from? What continent do most of your favorite bands come from?
Emily, I used to hate most core bands, too, but I’ve found a few that I like. The Showdown and Salt the Wound, for instance.
Spoken like a true sheep, sugaree. I respect your opinion, but I personally feel genres can be a good thing provided nobody screws up or insults you for what you listen to. If you honestly have nothing good to say, don’t bother answering the question. Different genres have different sounds. For instance, a lot of people classify Black Metal and Death Metal as the same, when this is not true. Death Metal focuses on vocals at the expense of their instrumentals, while Black Metal forcuses on their instrumentals at the expense of their vocals. They also have two completely different vocal stylings. While Death is often a much deeper growl, Black Metal is often of a higher-pitched growl and scream. There are exceptions to both, of course.
But, seriously, all you’re doing is repeating what others on here say. Get your own opinion please.
lelliesandremains, I’m trying to put into words my response to your answer. The best I can come up with is “Wow”. Someone actually took the time to answer my question properly. Congratulations. Seriously. It is also good to see the musically diverse haven’t left R&P for good.
Also, sugaree. I am neither narrow-minded nor limited. I am willing to listen to anything, but I classify it into a genre in order to keep it with things that sound similar. For instance. As a whole, I don’t particularely like rap. However, I have found certain rap artists that I like. I fail to see how this makes me narrow-minded. I do not refuse to listen to rap unless it is something I know I already hate. If anyone is narrow-minded, it’s you for classifying everyone that categorizes their music into genres as narrow-minded.
My apologies, Jimmy. Care to enlighten us on your favorite metal sub-genres?
Josh, you have my dream job. Seriously.
And now it’s not letting me respond to things xD
Riot Grrrl, I hate Disney. With a passion xD I love the old TV shows, but I hate the music
Unless someone can show me a good one (hasn’t happened yet)
Eh Sugaree. Point taken. However, I still like to classify my music so as to group it with things that have a like sound. If I’m in the mood to listen to Hecate Enthroned (Black MEtal band from Britain) then chances are I’ll be in the mood for Emperor and Mayhem (black metal bands from Norway) as well.
Also, let it be known that I gave everyone TUs. Including Sugaree xD

You’ve left out at least 20 of my favorite metal sub genres.
I listen to almost everything because i write music reviews (local news) so i need to know about everything. I can go from slipknot to Faith hill without a problem
only narrow minded people limit themselves by giving labels and assigning “genres”. if i “hear” and receive the vibe of music in a way that hits me right it doesn’t matter what lame label someone gives it, or what genre it is supposed to come from.
you miss the point…it doesn’t matter what you call it, it’s all music. i don’t see the point in having 66 different classifications to define music…..it’s to the point where the need by many to label music has overtaken the music itself. many people are more obsessed with assigning a label and genre to music than actually being into it. it’s about the music, not how many labels you can come up with to define the same thing.
I like a lot of Grunge rock, Goth rock, Punk, Riot Grrrl, Folk, Folk-punk, Psychedelic rock, Garage rock, Jazz, p-funk, Funk, Electronica, and a tiny bit of old school Rap..and I respect you for addmitting that you like Disney so good for you.
I really don’t like operatic vocals and lots of modern pop music is dire but asides that, there’s bands of pretty much every genre that I love.
Metals- Dark, some Death, Heavy, Goth, and progressive
Cores- I hate all core music on recording, but I’ll go to see core bands play at local venues. It’s more interesting when played live.
Rocks- Hard, Soft, Pop, Gargage, Goth, Prog, Classic, Alt.
Punk- Punk Rock, Pop
Jazz, Bluegrass, Folk, Classical, Grunge, Blues
